what is the difference between 'insert column' and 'insert mapped column in Data View Plus - Text formula editor?

Insert column** -> This is used when you are inserting a column from the data source.

Insert mapped column -> This is used when you are inserting a column that was mapped to the data type, for example: Manager for Org Chart, or start date for Calendar.

Question:

When would you use mapped column?

This is used when you have a special data type, and more than 1 data source that are all overlaid together.

For Example:

Calendar List type

List 1: start date is mapped to ListOneDate

List 2: start date is mapped to ListTwoDate

Now, if you want to display the start date (and it will show ListOneDate or ListTwoDate based on the source of the item), you would use the mapped column.
